3 Possible Causes of Poor Airflow in Orlando, FL

Good airflow is the linchpin that holds your HVAC system together and allows it to work efficiently. With it, you’ll probably stay quite cool this summer, but without it, home comfort in Orlando, FL, will be quite difficult to achieve. Here are three causes of poor airflow you need to know about.

1. Clogged Filters

By far, the most common reason for weak airflow through your HVAC system is dirty filters. After enough debris gathers on a filter’s mesh, it can block air from moving through the system itself and into your home.

Luckily, the solution to this problem is simple. Check your air filters at least once a month, and change or clean any dirty ones as needed. To minimize airflow difficulties, we recommend changing or cleaning at least once every three months, though you may need to clean as often as twice per month if you have a ductless system.

2. Dirty or Leaky Ductwork

Dirt in your system’s ductwork may choke off airflow, too. Also, if damage from cumulative abrasion or other means has created holes in your ducts, flowing air will leak out of them, further curtailing airflow.

Be sure to ask trained technicians to examine your ducts from time to time. If necessary, they can clean them and plug any leaks.

3. Lack of Maintenance

When technicians perform maintenance on your HVAC system, they might replace broken fan blades, clean or replace valves, replace missing refrigerant, and tighten screws or bolts in the system’s blower motor or compressor, among other things. Each of these tasks may improve airflow, and failing to perform them may diminish it. We recommend scheduling preventive maintenance at least once per year.
